Muar River View

The CNY (Chinese New Year) holidays were rather dull because of heavy rain, until yesterday. Today the sky was clear, so we decided to eat out and then go to Muar, which is about 50 km from Melaka. We wanted to go to Kaveri restaurant (which is near the Melaka riverside) as they have special menu for Fridays. What a great decision we made on a public holiday! We were stuck in terrible traffic jam and it took us more than an hour to cross the 2 km stretch, as holiday makers were thronging towards riverside:( Well, were at least rewarded with yummy food.

Sungai Melaka or Melaka River looked serene and we thought Muar riverside too might be like this...

Our friends in KL called us to ask if everything was ok in Melaka as the papers were talking about floods in and around Melaka. Our area was not affected, so we didn't know much about the floods until we saw it on the way to Muar...

However, we couldn't believe that there has been a flood recently, as Sun was taking its toll by then. We stopped for a drink and there I had a chance to capture these local delights...

Like our vadai/bajji these are krepoks or fried items made of yam, banana and fish.

We headed to Laut Bandar Maharani in Muar to view the estuary. Unlike river Melaka, here the river was rather wide and the place where the river merges with South China Sea was magnificent.

River bank was filled with creepy crawlies, but too small to capture. After a while we went to the food court, which is in the first floor of this building...

And the view was fit for a queen...Maharani River View...

Dark clouds were looming, so we decided to get back before the downpour starts.
